The project titled “EdA: Development and Testing of an AI-Supported Educational Assessment Assistant with an Interdisciplinary Sustainability Module,” prepared under the leadership of Prof. Dr. İbrahim Delen, a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Science Education Division, Faculty of Education at Boğaziçi University, has been awarded support under the ADEP program.
The project team includes Prof. Dr. Hakan Akçay, Prof. Dr. Dilek Altun, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Arıcan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Dilşad Yakut, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Köklü from Boğaziçi University, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İnce from Istanbul Technical University as researchers.
The 24-month project aims to investigate how artificial intelligence-supported learning and assessment systems can be utilized within the context of sustainability education. As part of the project, EdA (Educational Assessment Assistant) will be developed as an innovative AI system that integrates large language models with learning analytics.
EdA will provide personalized feedback by analyzing the explanations and arguments produced by pre-service teachers and students during sustainability-themed activities. The project also adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates sustainability education with artificial intelligence applications. In this context, pre-service teachers will be trained not only as users of AI, but also as educators who can interpret, critically evaluate, and ethically utilize AI-generated assessments within educational processes.
In the first phase of the research, the interactions of pre-service teachers with EdA will be examined. In the second phase, the developed activities will be implemented with K–8 students. By the end of the project, it is expected that sustainability-themed digital activities, teacher resources, and research findings regarding the use of AI-supported assessment tools in educational settings will be produced.
Bringing together researchers from Boğaziçi University and Istanbul Technical University, the project aims to become one of the pioneering initiatives in Türkiye in the field of teacher education at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sustainability.
