Dr. Dilan Bayındır's Seminar
The seminar on "The Study of the Relationship between the Level of Self-Regulation Skills of Preschoolers and Attachment Security, Maternal Parenting Behaviors and Maternal Psychological Well-Being" was held by Dr. Dilan Bayındır.
Summary:
This study aims (i) to develop a valid and reliable scale that could be used to determine the level of self-regulation skills of preschoolers and (ii) to study the relationship between the level of self-regulation skills and attachment security, parenting behaviors of mothers and maternal psychological well-being. In the first part, a valid and reliable scale that is named as “Self-Regulation Skills Scale” was developed and then the relation between the determined variables and self-regulation skills of preschoolers were investigated. The Self-Regulation Skills Scale, the Doll Family Story Completion Test, the Parenting Questionnaire and the Brief Symptom Inventory were used as data collection tools in the second part. The results indicate that self-regulation skill levels of children who are securely attached to their mothers are higher than insecurely attached children. In addition, it was found that self-regulation skills of the children decrease as the mothers expect more obedience.
